Impaired motorcyclist dies, passenger seriously injured after crash near Mt. Bachelor, police say

Tragedy struck near Mt. Bachelor Tuesday evening when a motorcycle wreck left one man dead and another seriously injured.
According to Oregon State Police, the crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Forest Service Road 46—also known as Century Drive or Cascade Lakes Highway. Beau Douglas Gibney, 36, from Sisters, Oregon, was riding a black Husqvarna motorcycle southbound when the bike left the road near milepost 24 and slammed into a tree stump.
Both Gibney and his passenger were thrown from the bike. Despite emergency efforts, Gibney died at the scene. The passenger was flown out by air ambulance with serious injuries.
Investigators say that speed and possible impairment may have played a role in the crash.
It’s a tough reminder that even out on those beautiful roads we all love, the ride can turn quick. Stay sharp out there. Keep your head clear, your eyes up, and your rubber on the road.
